The Ice Swan by J’nell Ciesielski
What happened to all the noble and aristocratic families after the fall of the Romanovs, when the Bolsheviks swept in to overtake Russia? Thousands fled with little more than the elegant clothes on their backs. They were forced to journey all over the world to find a safe place and rebuild their ousted communities. One of the largest such communities was in Paris during the 1920s.
In our interview, author Ciesielski describes the research requirements for this book: the joys of researching the Paris diaspora, as well as the exhaustion brought about by investigating medical history and techniques.
